The world famous real-time strategy game Age of Empires (AOE) returns after five years with a new release. The story begins right where the last one left off after the AOE II expansion, with the conquering of the New World. Compared to previous games in the saga, Age of Empires III brings an updated 3D graphics engine and the possibility to play online using the game itself, which wasn’t possible in the previous release.
The mechanics of AOE III are fairly simple. You need to gather resources like gold, wood and minerals to build your fortresses and expand your forces. You’ll also need to feed your armies by working fields of crops. The strategy element of the game is even more present in this game, because you can specialize your troops and improve them before battle.
In Age of Empires III, advancing doesn’t automatically lead to the option to get new improvements, since everything is gained through experience as you battle enemies and create new units. This makes it much more versatile than AOE II, and time isn’t as significant of a factor as it was before.
